Workshop kick-off and surveys on sustainable communication methods in Finland

As part of a Futouris project in collaboration with Visit Finland, Christian Baumgartner and the DMO of Ruka-Kuusamo, effective communication methods are being investigated to make potential guests aware of more sustainable travel offers. In a workshop in Kuusamo, existing regional sustainable offers were evaluated and a concept was developed based on this, which will be tested in a pilot project and later shared throughout Finland.

Which communication methods are most effective in making potential guests aware of a destination’s existing sustainable travel offers? Futouris is addressing this question in a collaboration with Visit Finland, Christian Baumgartner from response & ability and the Destination Management Organization (DMO) of Ruka-Kuusamo in north-eastern Finland, using the region as a case study.

During a motivating workshop in Kuusamo in February, regional stakeholders have already evaluated the status quo of sustainable tourism offers in the region and their communication to tourists. Based on these evaluations, a concept for effective communication is currently being developed in close cooperation with the Ruka-Kuusamo Tourism Association as part of a scientific project.

The scenario technique is being used to test which communication strategy has the greatest influence on the decision-making behavior of the guests surveyed on three different topics.

Some of the designed measures and strategies are then implemented in a pilot project in the region by the tourism association. The resulting findings and the advice derived from them will then be shared with all Finnish destinations and the tourism industry.

About the Project

The project “Sustainable Finland: Successful communication for conscious travel in Ruka-Kuusamo” by Futouris and Visit Finland examines which communication measures are effective in promoting the booking of sustainable regional travel offers.
